Vape disposal

It is estimated that around 150,000 disposable vapes are thrown away in Oxfordshire every week. Oxford Brookes is participating in a trial with Oxfordshire County Council, Cherwell District Council and Oxford City Council to promote safe disposal of vapes and reduce environmental contamination. Specialised recycling bins for vapes are now available across campus and accommodation sites.

From 1 June 2025, it became illegal for businesses to sell or supply all single-use or disposable vapes with further information available on the government website. The disposable vape bins on Oxford Brookes' campus spaces will remain in place after the introduction of this ban. Their continued use on the University's premises will be reviewed later in 2025.

Vapes should not be thrown in general waste or standard recycling bins, as they can cause fires and pollution. Please use these designated vape bins instead at the following locations:
