Research impact

Our supportive cancer care research has provided evidence of the physical, psychological and social consequences of diagnosis and treatment on patients and their families, highlighting important gaps in care and support. This has helped influence the development of national cancer policy and cancer charities’ strategy development, as well as informing the development and delivery of supportive care services at both local and national levels.

Research impact achievement and activities:

  • NIHR RFPB Feasibility study- Exploring the feasibility and acceptability of an RCT evaluating the use of an HCP-supported self- management intervention for fatigue after critical illness
  • Rapid review in progress that is exploring health literacy in people with primary hypertension
  • Systematic Review of shared decision-making in patients with hypertension
  • National Survey exploring safety huddles in intensive care.
  • Virtual Reality Immersive Education for Type 2 in Young Adults  (VaRIET2Y)
  • Relationship with PG curriculum -validation of a novel tool,  the doctoral and academic writing in nursing, midwifery and allied health professions questionnaire (DAWNMAHP) to measure the relationship between writing group interventions and doctoral writing development
  • AI Nurses Network – Seed Funding Call 2025: Evaluating the usability and acceptability of a prototype AI-powered enhanced recovery pathway progress dashboard (AI-ERPP dashboard) for tracking postoperative recovery by registered nurses in an elective colorectal surgical ward: a multi-centre study
