What are the options?

As an applicant, you will have three options:

1. International exchange (during the 2nd year)

Who Can Apply?: Only 1st year students can apply
Where?: See the Partner University list for 2nd year
When?: During Semester 1, Semester 2, or for the full academic year of your 2nd year (Level 5).

2. Full year International study abroad (between 2nd and final year)

Who Can Apply? Only 2nd year students can apply
Where? See the Partner University list
When? An international year abroad (sandwich placement) is an exceptional opportunity for you to gain global experience by spending a year abroad between your 2nd (Level 5) and 3rd years (Level 6) of study. This will be your 3rd year of study, and you will complete your studies in Year 4.

Not all programmes offer the Sandwich Year programme. Please speak to your Programme leader to find out if your course offers the Sandwich programme.

3. Summer schools

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students can apply to the summer school programmes for Summer 2025. Find out more about the options.

What are the differences?

Postgraduate students are not eligible to study abroad in the below programmes.

Replaces your 3rd year of study and extends your programme to 4 years	No extension to your study
Discount for the Oxford Brookes tuition fees while abroad.	No discount for one semester, discount for a full year.

How to apply

The application round for 2025-2026 is now closed. The 2026-2027 application cycle will open in November 2025, with a deadline in mid-February 2026. Below are the steps you’ll need to follow during the application process:

Check that you have a GPA of 2.5 (55%-59%) or above through Student Information on your record & results page.
Complete the Study abroad registration form
Provide your supporting documents:

download the Faculty approval form and ask your exchange or subject coordinator/s to sign it
upload the signed Faculty approval form
upload a short personal statement explaining what motivated you to apply for an exchange abroad
download and complete the research sheet

this will be available to download via Mobility Online.
